Topic: Identify and use simple past tense verbs in sentences

Objectives & Outcomes

• Students will be able to identify and use simple past tense verbs in sentences.

Materials

• Whiteboard or chalkboard
• List of simple past tense verbs (can be provided by teacher or taken from textbook)
• Examples of sentences using simple past tense verbs

Warm-up

• Ask students to share what they know about the past tense.
• Write their answers on the board.
• Ask students if they can give an example of a simple past tense verb.

Direct Instruction

• Review the rules for forming the past tense with simple past tense verbs.
• Have students repeat the rules after you.
• Use the verb chart to show examples of simple past tense verbs and their endings.
• Have students match the verbs to their endings.

Guided Practice
