Objectives & Outcomes

• Students will be able to identify prepositions and their associated objects in a given sentence.
• Students will be able to use prepositions correctly in a paragraph.

Materials

• Whiteboard or chalkboard
• Handout with preposition examples
• Sentences with prepositions identified

Warm-up

• Review some prepositions such as "in," "on," "under," and "behind." Have students put themselves in different places in the classroom and use the prepositions to describe their location.
• Have students work with a partner to come up with a sentence using a preposition. Encourage them to use their own ideas and not look at the handout for help.

Direct Instruction

• Review the list of prepositions and their definitions.
• Demonstrate how to use prepositions in a sentence by creating a sentence using a preposition and have the class identify the preposition.
• Have students work with a partner to create a sentence using a preposition. Encourage them to use their own ideas and not look at the handout for help.

Guided Practice

• Have students work in pairs to create a paragraph using as many prepositions as possible.
• Have the class come together and read their paragraphs out loud to the class, identifying the prepositions as they go.

Independent Practice

• Have students choose a topic that they are interested in and write a paragraph about it using as many prepositions as possible.
• Have the students illustrate their paragraphs and submit them for grading.

Closure

• Review the main points of the lesson: what prepositions are and how to use them in paragraphs.
• Ask the students to share any new insights they gained about prepositions during the lesson.

Assessment
