Free 5th Grade Cooking Lesson Plan (English)

Topic: Cooking verbs, expressions and exercises for a beginner student, with very low skills using only the present simple tense

Objectives & Outcomes

• Students will be able to conjugate regular verbs in the present simple tense
• Students will be able to use expressions related to cooking in English
• Students will be able to answer questions related to cooking in English

Materials

• Verb chart with regular verbs in the present simple tense
• Examples of verbs in the present simple tense (e.g. "I walk", "she smiles")
• Flashcards with expressions related to cooking (e.g. "turn the heat to medium", "add the salt")
• Pen and paper for practicing verb conjugation and expression writing

Warm-Up

• Ask students what they like to eat. Write their answers on the board.
• Ask students to think of a verb related to cooking and write it on the board.
• Ask students to think of an expression related to cooking and write it on the board.
• Review the verbs, expressions and write an example sentence for each one on the board.

Direct Instruction

• Explain to students that today we are going to learn about the present simple tense.
• Write the present simple tense chart on the board.
• Go over the present simple tense chart with students, using examples and answering any questions.
• Explain to students that we will use the present simple tense to talk about habits, regular events and things that are always true.
• Write the present simple tense example sentences on the board, using the present simple tense chart as a guide.

Guided Practice

• Have students work in pairs or small groups and give each group a present simple tense sentence to work with.
• Have students use the present simple tense chart to identify the tense of the sentence and make any necessary corrections.
• Have students use the present simple tense example sentences to check their work and make sure they are correct.

Independent Practice

• Have students work in pairs or small groups and choose a common food or recipe to cook together.
• Have students use the present simple tense to verbally communicate their cooking instructions to each other.
• Have students share their finished dish and enjoy the fruits of their labor.

Closure

• Review the present simple tense and its usage in a cooking context.
• Ask students to share their favorite part of the cooking activity and why.

Assessment

• Observe students during the independent practice and give feedback.
