Topic: Review week

Objectives & Outcomes

• Students will be able to identify and understand the 7 Principles of Art and the 3 Elements of composition.

Materials

• Art project supplies (e.g. construction paper, scissors, glue, markers)
• Examples of artwork that demonstrate the 7 principles and 3 elements (can be from student projects or from the art gallery)

Warm-up

• Ask students to think about their favorite piece of art.
• Ask them to share their favorite piece and explain what they like about it.
• Encourage them to mention the 7 principles of art and the 3 elements of composition.

Direct Instruction

• Review the 7 principles of art and the 3 elements of composition using the handouts.
• Have students make notes on the handouts as you discuss each principle and element.
• Demonstrate how to create an art project using the 7 principles of art and the 3 elements of composition.

Guided Practice

• Have students work in small groups to create their own art projects using the 7 principles of art and the 3 elements of composition.
• Provide guidance and assistance as needed.

Independent Practice

• Have students turn in their art projects for review by the class.
• Encourage students to share their projects and discuss the techniques and ideas behind their creations with their classmates.

Closure

• Review the art principles and elements covered in the unit.
• Ask students to share one thing they learned or found interesting about art during the unit.
