Topic: Father's Day Card

Objectives & Outcomes

  • Students will understand the meaning of Father's Day and will be able to create a card for their beloved dads

Materials

  • Card stock paper
  • Colored pencils or markers
  • Glue
  • Scissors
  • Pencils or pens for writing the card messages

Warm-up

  • Have the students stand up and stretch their bodies for a few seconds. Ask them to think of their favorite thing about their dads and share it with the class.
  • Ask the students if they know what Father's Day is and why we celebrate it.

Direct Instruction

  • Explain to the students that Father's Day is a day when we honor and appreciate our fathers and all they do for us.
  • Tell the students that they will be creating a Father's Day card as a way of showing their appreciation.

Guided Practice:

  • Show the students the supplies they will use to create the card: cardstock, markers, scissors, and glue.
  • Show the students how to make a card front and a card inside.
  • Have the students work in pairs to create their own Father's Day cards.

Independent Practice:

  • Have the students work on their cards independently, either working on their own or in pairs.
  • As the students work, walk around the room and offer assistance and guidance as needed.

Closure

  • Have the students come to the front of the class and present their cards to the class.
  • Ask the students to share something they appreciate about their father, or something they learned about fathers during the lesson.

Assessment

  • Observe the students during the independent practice and give them feedback on their cards.
  • Use the closure activity as a form of assessment, evaluating the students' participation in the closure activity.
