Topic: Creating a Portfolio

Objectives & Outcomes

• Students will be able to create a portfolio that includes their best work and demonstrates their skills and abilities.

Materials

• Scrapbook or folder
• Papers
• Pictures
• Other materials as needed (e.g. glue, scissors, paper clips)

Warm-up

• Ask students what a portfolio is and why they might need one.
• Show examples of portfolios to inspire creativity and ideas.
• Have students brainstorm what they might include in their portfolios.

Direct Instruction

• Explain that a portfolio is a collection of work that shows what a student can do.
• Emphasize the importance of including a variety of work, such as writing, art, and math examples.
• Show students how to organize their work into sections and how to present it nicely.

Guided Practice

• Have students work in pairs to create their own portfolios.
• Have the teacher or another experienced student provide support and guidance as needed.

Independent Practice

• Have students choose a subject area to focus on for their portfolios.
• Have them gather and organize samples of their work in this subject area into their portfolios.
• Have them create a cover page or introduction for their portfolios that includes information about the subject area they focused on and their goals for the portfolio.

Closure

• Have students share their portfolios with the class.
• Have them discuss the importance of having a portfolio and how it can help them demonstrate their skills and accomplishments.
• Ask students to reflect on the process of creating their portfolios and what they learned about themselves and their subject area.

Assessment

• Observe students as they work on their portfolios and provide feedback on their progress.
• Evaluate the final portfolios to assess students' understanding of the importance of creating a portfolio and their ability to select and present appropriate material.
