Free Super Senses Lesson Plan for 4th Grade Students

Topic: Super senses

Objectives & Outcomes:

• Students will understand the concept of super senses and how they are different from normal senses.

Materials

• Pictures of animals with super senses (e.g. cat with hearing, fish with smell, dolphin with hearing)
• Pen and paper for each student

Warm-up

• Ask students if they have ever seen an animal with a super power.
• Ask students to share their experiences and examples of animals with super powers.

Direct Instruction

• Introduce the topic of dolphin super senses and explain that dolphins have special abilities that other animals don't have.
• Share the video of dolphins using their echolocation ability and explain how this helps them to find food and navigate their environment.
• Discuss other super senses that dolphins have, such as their ability to hear sounds at high frequencies that humans can't hear and their ability to sense the movement of water using their whiskers.

Guided Practice

• Have students work in pairs and have one student act as the dolphin and the other student as the fish.
• Have the students take turns using their imagination to act out the scene where the dolphin uses its super sense of hearing to find the fish in the water.
• Encourage students to use their own creative ideas and stories as they act out the scene.

Independent Practice

• Give each student a piece of paper and a pen.
• Have students draw a picture of a dolphin using its super sense of hearing to find a fish in the water.
• Ask students to write a short sentence to describe their picture and explain how their picture shows the dolphin using its super sense of hearing to find the fish.

Closure

• Ask students to share their drawings and sentences with the class.
• Encourage other students to ask questions about the drawings and sentences.

Assessment

• Observe students during the independent practice and make note of their participation and understanding of the concept.
• Collect and review the drawings and sentences to assess understanding of the concept and ability to apply it in a creative way.
