Objectives & Outcomes

Materials

Warm-up

  • Have students stretch their bodies by reaching their fingers and toes toward the ceiling, reaching their arms overhead, and bending side to side.
  • Play music and have students dance to the music, focusing on moving their bodies in a rhythmic manner.

Direct Instruction

  • Introduce the concept of rhythmic movement and explain that it refers to moving our bodies in a coordinated and timed way to music.
  • Demonstrate the basic gymnastic moves, such as cartwheels, handstands, and hand-over-hand swings.
  • Have students watch and imitate the gymnastic moves, focusing on proper form and technique.

Guided Practice

  • Divide the class into small groups and assign each group a gymnastic move to practice.

  • Continue with additional gymnastic moves until all have been covered.

Independent Practice

Closure

  • Have students present their gymnastic acts to the class.
