Objectives & Outcomes

• Given 10, 2 digit x 2 digit multiplication problems with regrouping, the student will be able to perform with 90% accuracy by the end of the lesson.

Warm-up

• Have the student practice writing the numbers 1-10 in a row, then have him or her place a dot above every second number (eg. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10. -> 1. _____, 2. _____, 3. _____, 4. _____, 5. _____, 6. _____, 7. _____, 8. _____, 9. _____, 10. _____)
• Ask the student to count the number of dots, then have him or her add up the numbers adjacent to the dots (if there are 4 dots, have the student count 4, then add the numbers next to the dots, which would be 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 = 10)
• Ask the student to perform the same task, but this time have him or her place a dot below every second number (eg. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10. -> 1. _______, 2. _______, 3. _______, 4. _______, 5. _______, 6. _______, 7. _______, 8. _______, 9. _______, 10. _______)
