Topic: water pollution

Objectives & Outcomes

Materials
- pencils and paper

• pictures or videos of examples of water pollution (e.g. an oil spill, trash in a river, industrial waste being discharged into a lake)

Warm-up

• Begin the lesson by asking students if they know what water pollution is. Allow a few volunteers to answer.
• Then, show the students pictures or videos of examples of water pollution and ask them to describe what they see. Encourage them to use descriptive words such as "hazards," "dangerous," and "unhealthy."

Direct Instruction

• Explain to the students that water pollution is when harmful substances are put into the water, making it unsafe to drink or use.
• Show the students pictures or videos of different types of water pollution, such as littering, illegal dumping, and industrial waste discharge. Discuss the consequences of each type of water pollution, and encourage the students to use their own experiences to come up with examples.
• Emphasize the importance of preventing water pollution by keeping our environment clean and taking care of our natural resources.

Guided Practice:

• Give the students a writing prompt that asks them to write a short essay about water pollution, including any examples or experiences they have had.
• Walk around the classroom and provide feedback and support as needed.

Independent Practice

• Give the students time to write their essays, and then have them share their writing with the class.
