Morning Speaking Class Lesson Plan for 4th Grade Example Students

Topic: Speaking

Objectives & Outcomes

• Students will be able to give a basic introduction of themselves and others.
• Students will be able to express their feelings and thoughts in a clear and concise manner.
• Students will be able to engage in simple conversation and roleplay situations in real life.

Materials

• Pen and paper
• Cardboard boxes originally intended for shipping
• Scissors
• Glue
• Markers or pen
• Pictures of different situations (e.g. buying something at a store, phoning a friend, etc.)

Warm-Up

• Ask students to stand up and stretch for a few minutes.
• Play a game of "Simon Says" for a few minutes to get students moving and engaged in the lesson.
• Ask students to share something about themselves (e.g. their name, their favorite color, etc.). Write their responses on the board or on a piece of paper.

Direct Instruction

• Introduce the topic of the lesson, which is speaking in real life situations.
• Demonstrate the different roleplay situations, such as buying something at a store, phoning a friend, etc.
• Have students watch and copy the actions and words you demonstrate.
• Encourage students to speak and make mistakes with minimal corrections.

Guided Practice

• Divide the students into small groups.
• Give each group a set of scenarios and have them work together to create a story using the scenarios and their own words.
• Have each group present their story to the class.

Independent Practice

• Have the students work in pairs to complete a roleplay situation.
• Encourage the students to use the language and grammar they have learned in the lesson.

Closure

• Review the key points of the lesson.
• Ask the students to share their favorite part of the lesson.

Assessment:

• Observe the students during the independent practice to see if they are able to speak in English.
• Collect the students' presentations and review them to assess their understanding of the topic and their ability to speak in English.
• Use a checklist to assess the students' overall participation and understanding of the lesson.
