Topic: Giving direction on a map

Objectives & Outcomes

• Students will be able to give directions to get from one point to an other using expressions and prepositions of place.

Materials

• Maps of different cities or areas (optional)
• Paper and pencils for each student

Warm-up

• Ask the students if they have ever given or received directions to get from one place to another.
• Ask them to share their experiences and what expressions and prepositions they used.

Direct Instruction

• Introduce the concept of giving directions using expressions and prepositions of place.
• Review the expressions and prepositions of place that will be used in giving directions (e.g. "turn left," "go straight," "cross the street," "go up the stairs").
• Have the students practice giving and receiving directions using the expressions and prepositions.

Guided Practice

• Give the students a map with several marked points and have them work in pairs to give and receive directions to get from one point to another.
• Encourage the students to use the expressions and prepositions as needed.

Independent Practice

• Have the students work in groups to create their own maps with points, and then give and receive directions to get from one point to another using the expressions and prepositions of place.
• Encourage the students to use the correct pronunciation for the expressions and prepositions.

Closure

• Review the expressions and prepositions of place that were used during the activity.
• Ask the students to share their favorite part of the activity and why.

Assessment

• Observe the students during the independent practice activity and pay close attention to the accuracy of their expressions and prepositions of place.
• Have students complete a written reflection on the activity, including what they learned and what they found difficult about the activity.
