Topic: Adverbs of Time

Objectives & Outcomes

• Students will be able to identify adverbs of time and define their functions in a sentence.

Materials

• Adverbs of time handout (see below for examples)
• Whiteboard or chalkboard
• Adverbs of time worksheet (see below for example)

Warm-up

• Ask students if they can name any adverbs. Have them raise their hands and call on a few students to provide examples.
• Write a few adverbs of time on the board: today, tomorrow, yesterday. Ask students to give an example of how each adverb would be used in a sentence.

Direct Instruction

• Review the definitions of adverbs and provide examples of adverbs of time.
• Show students a list of adverbs of time and have them identify which ones are on the list.
• Discuss the uses of adverbs of time in sentence structure, including how they can function as modifiers and predicates.

Guided Practice

• Have students work in pairs to correct the sentences using adverbs of time.
