Topic: Managing Windows 10

Objectives & Outcomes

• Students will be able to navigate and manage files and folders in Windows 10.

Materials

• Windows 10 computers for each student
• File Explorer windows open on each student's computer

Warm-up

• Ask students if they have used a computer before.
• Ask them to name the parts of a computer they are familiar with (monitor, keyboard, mouse, etc.).
• Ask them to describe how they would go about finding a file on their computer.

Direct Instruction

• Show students how to open and close windows in Windows 10.
• Demonstrate how to use the File Explorer to view and manage files and folders.
• Explain the different types of windows that can appear in File Explorer, such as the This PC window, the Details window, and the Properties window.

Guided Practice

• Have students work in pairs to open the File Explorer and navigate to a known location, such as their My Documents folder.
• Have them use the File Explorer to view and explore the contents of the folder.
• Encourage them to identify and explain the different windows and features they see in the File Explorer.

Independent Practice

• Have students work in small groups to create a new folder in their My Documents folder.
• Have them use the File Explorer to navigate to their My Documents folder and create the new folder.
• Encourage them to use the different windows and features of the File Explorer to navigate and manage the contents of their My Documents folder.

Closure

• Have each group share the name of their new folder and explain how they used the different windows and features of the File Explorer to create and manage their folder.
• Review the different windows and features of the File Explorer and how they can be used to manage files and folders.

Assessment

• Observe students during the independent practice to see if they are able to create and manage a new folder using the different windows and features of the File Explorer.
• Collect and review the folders created by students during independent practice to assess their understanding of how to use the different windows and features of the File Explorer to create and manage folders.
