Objectives & Outcomes

Materials

• Snowflakes cutouts or real snowflakes
• Tree cutouts or real tree branches
• Moon cutouts or real moon
• Sharpies
• Contract
• Patterns of choice

Warm-up

• Have students sit in a circle.
• Show the students a snowflake cutout or real snowflake and have them observe the different patterns on the snowflake.
• Ask the students if they can name any patterns they see on the snowflake.
• Write the patterns on the board as the students name them.
• Continue this process with a tree cutout or real tree branch, and a moon cutout or real moon.

Direct Instruction

• Introduce the concept of zentangle to the students.
• Show the students some zentangle patterns and have them identify the patterns.
• Explain that zentangle is a method of drawing that involves filling spaces with patterns to create a harmonious whole.
• Explain that we will be using zentangle patterns to draw pumpkins in today's activity.

Guided Practice:

• Divide the students into pairs and provide each pair with a piece of paper and a pencil.
• Show the students some zentangle patterns and have them select one to use in their pumpkin.
• Have the students take turns drawing the pumpkin while their partner provides feedback and guidance.

Independent Practice:
