Free 3rd Grade Globalization Lesson Plan (Social Studies)

Topic: globalization

Objectives & Outcomes

• Students will be able to define the term "globalization" and identify at least three examples of how it impacts their daily lives.

Materials

• Word wall with printed definition of "globalization"
• Handouts with examples of how globalization impacts daily life (e.g. international trade, migrant workers, internet access)
• Whiteboard and markers

Warm-up

• Ask students if they have ever traveled outside of their hometown.
• Ask them to share their experiences and how they felt being in a new place.
• Introduce the term "globalization" and ask students to guess what it means.

Direct Instruction

• Explain that the term "globalization" refers to the increasing interconnectedness of people, cultures, and economies around the world.
• Use examples such as the spread of popular culture, the increase in international trade, and the rise of global corporations to illustrate this concept.
• Ask students to brainstorm examples of things that are considered to be "global" and write them on the board.

Guided Practice

• Have students work in pairs to come up with a list of global products or services (e.g. Nike shoes, Starbucks coffee, Apple iPhones).
• Have each pair present their list to the class and discuss why these items are considered to be "global."

Independent Practice

• Have students choose one global product or service that they are familiar with (e.g. Starbucks coffee, Nike shoes, Apple iPhones).
• Have students research how their chosen product or service is made and find out where it is manufactured.
• Have students create a poster or presentation to share their findings with the class.

Closure

• Review the key points of the lesson, including the importance of globalization and the challenges and opportunities it presents.
• Ask students to reflect on what they have learned and discuss if they think globalization is a good or bad thing.

Assessment

• Observe students during the group and individual presentations to assess their understanding of the concept of globalization.
• Evaluate the projects based on their creativity, research, and presentation skills.
