Topic: setting academic goals

Objectives & Outcomes

• Students will be able to identify the different components of an academic goal and explain the importance of setting goals in school.

Materials

• Whiteboard or chalkboard
• Markers or chalk
• Examples of academic goals (e.g. "I want to achieve a 90% grade in math this year")

Warm-up

• Ask students if they have set any academic goals for the current school year.
• Ask students to share their goals with the class.
• Review the different components of an academic goal (objective, actionable steps, timeframe, accountability) and discuss the importance of setting goals in school.

Direct Instruction

• Introduce the concept of goal setting and provide examples of different types of goals (academic, athletic, personal).
• Discuss the importance of setting actionable goals with a timeframe and identifying potential obstacles.
• Review the steps for setting an academic goal (identify objective, list actionable steps, set a timeframe, identify accountability).
