Warm-up

• Ask the students what they know about the FIFA women's world cup.
• Write their responses on the board.
• Ask the students if they have ever played any sports or if they play any sports now.
• Write their responses on the board.
• Ask the students if they know what happens in a game of soccer.
• Write their responses on the board.

Direct Instruction

• Introduce the topic of the science of soccer.
• Explain that there are physical phenomena that occur during a game of soccer that are important to understand in order to play the game well.
• Discuss the concepts of movement, forces, and heat.
• Use the handouts to guide the discussion and provide examples of these concepts.
• Emphasize the importance of these concepts in soccer and how they can be observed and tested through hands-on activities.

Guided Practice

• Divide the class into groups and give each group a set of materials to work with (e.g. a ball, wooden cube, yardstick, and heat source).
• Walk the groups through the process of conducting a simple experiment to test one of the concepts discussed (e.g. testing the force of a kick using the wooden cube as a target).
