Objectives & Outcomes

• Students will be able to design and create a minature cardboard space suit using provided materials such as cardboard, tape, and scissors.

Materials

• Cardboard
• Tape
• Scissors
• Pencil and paper for each student

Warm-up

• Have students draw a rough outline of a space suit on a piece of paper.
• Ask students to share their drawings and explain what they included on their space suit.
• Review the different parts of a space suit (helmet, torso, arms, and legs) and have students draw each part on their paper.

Direct Instruction

• Show students a picture of a space suit and explain the different parts.
• Discuss the materials that are needed to make a miniature cardboard space suit, and provide students with the materials.
• Demonstrate how to cut out the different parts of the space suit and how to assemble them using tape.

Guided Practice:

• Have students work with a partner to cut out and assemble the space suit using the instructions provided.
• Have students use markers or other coloring tools to color the space suit.

Independent Practice:

• Have students choose a color scheme for their space suit and use markers or other coloring tools to color in the spacesuit.
• Have students use scissors and glue to add details to their space suit, such as buttons, zippers, or a helmet.

Closure:

• Have students share their space suits with the class and explain the different features they added.
• Review the functions of different parts of a space suit and discuss how they help astronauts stay safe and comfortable in space.

Assessment:

• Observe students during the independent practice activity and provide feedback on their understanding of the functions of space suit parts.
• Have students complete a worksheet or quiz on the different parts of a space suit and their functions.
