Topic: National anthem and its authors

Objectives & Outcomes

• By the end of this lesson, students will be able to sing the first stanza of the national anthem and identify its authors.

Materials

• National anthem sheet music
• National anthem lyrics sheet
• Pen and paper for each student

Warm-up

• Ask students if they know what the national anthem is and what country it represents.
• Play the national anthem and have students count the number of verses, stop after the first one and ask them to name the authors of the national anthem.

Direct Instruction

• Explain to students that the national anthem is a song that is supposed to represent the country and its people.
• Ask students if they know what the colors of the national flag are, and if they can name any historical figures or events that are represented in the anthem.

Guided Practice

• Lead students through a sing-along of the national anthem, providing prompts and guidance as needed.
• Encourage students to actively participate and make noise while they sing.

Independent Practice

• Give students a copy of the national anthem lyrics and have them write out the words in Spanish and English.
• Encourage students to pay attention to the phrasing and pronunciation of the lyrics as they write.

Closure

• Have the class come together and sing the national anthem together.
• Have students share their completed copies of the lyrics with the class.
• Review the meaning and significance of the national anthem as a unifying symbol of the country.
