Free 3rd Grade Numbers Up To 9999 Lesson Plan (Math)

Topic: Learn to count up to 9999 in French.

Objectives & Outcomes

  • By the end of this lesson, students will be able to count up to 9999 in French.

Materials

  • French counting chart (or create one using this template: http://www.a-c-b.org/french-counting-chart)
  • Pencils or pen
  • Paper

Warm-up

  • Review the concept of counting in French. Ask students to share what they already know about counting in French.
  • Ask students to count up to 10 in French, using the counting chart as a reference.
  • Review the different counting numbers in French (un, deux, trois, etc.)

Direct Instruction

  • Introduce the counting chart and explain that it is used to help us count up to 9999 in French.
  • Ask students to look at the first row of the counting chart, which has the numbers from 0 to 99. Ask them to identify the numbers and say them in French.
  • Then, ask students to look at the second row of the counting chart, which has the numbers from 100 to 199. Again, ask them to identify the numbers and say them in French.
  • Continue this process for the third, fourth, and fifth rows of the counting chart, which have the numbers from 200 to 999.
  • Once students have mastered counting up to 999 in French, give them a few practice problems to solve on their own, using the counting chart as a reference.

Guided Practice

  • After introducing the counting chart, give students a few new problems to solve, using the counting chart as a reference. Have them work in pairs or small groups to solve the problems. This will give them a chance to practice independently and check their work with the counting chart.
  • After students have had a chance to solve the problems on their own, collect the counting charts and have them work in pairs or small groups to check each other's work. This will give them a chance to review the concepts they have learned and ensure that they are counting correctly.

Independent Practice

  • Give students a worksheet with a few more problems to solve, using the counting chart as a reference. Have them work independently to solve the problems on the worksheet. This will give them a chance to practice and review the concepts they have learned without the help of a teacher or classmate.

Closure

  • Have students share their answers to the problems on the worksheet with a partner. They can check each other's work and talk about any problems they had solving the problems.

Assessment

  • Observe students during independent practice to assess their understanding of place value and the mechanics of adding and subtracting numbers with place value.
  • Collect and review their completed worksheets to assess their ability to solve problems with place value and add and subtract numbers up to 9999.
