Objectives & Outcomes

  • Students will be able to name at least 5 different types of fruits.
  • Students will be able to describe the characteristics and uses of each fruit.

Materials

  • Pictures of different fruits (e.g. banana, apple, orange, kiwi, mango, pineapple, guava)
  • Chart paper and markers

Warm-up

  • Ask students if they are familiar with any of the fruits shown in the pictures.
  • Ask them to name as many fruits as they can.
  • Write their responses on the chart paper.

Direct Instruction

  • Show the students the pictures of different fruits and ask them to name each one.
  • Explain that all of these fruits are part of a group called "fruit."
  • Ask students to share some of their favorite fruits and why they like them.

Guided Practice:

  • Give each student a piece of paper and a pencil.
  • Ask them to draw a picture of one of their favorite fruits.
  • Encourage them to use the colors they think would best represent their fruit.

Conclusion:

  • As a class, discuss the different fruits that were named and shown in the pictures.
  • Talk about how each fruit looks and tastes different from the others.
  • End with a short prayer thanking Jesus for giving us these wonderful gifts of fruit.
  • Optional: Bring in a real fruit for the students to taste.

Independent Practice:

  • Ask the students to work in pairs.
  • Give each pair a piece of paper and a pencil.
  • Ask them to draw a picture of their favorite fruit and write the name of the fruit below the picture.
  • Encourage them to use the colors they think would best represent their fruit.

Closure:

  • Ask the students to share their drawings with the class and explain why they chose the colors they did and chose their favorite fruit.
  • Review the names of the different fruits and ask the students to repeat them.

Assessment:

  • Observe the students during independent practice and listen as they work in pairs to try and understand and correctly pronounce the different fruits.
  • Collect the students' drawings and use them to assess their understanding of the names of the different fruits and their ability to use and combine colors.
  • Have the students participate in a guided group discussion to assess their understanding of the topic.
