  • Clock or watch with second hand
  • Calendar
  • Chart paper and markers

Warm-up

  • Ask students if they know what time it is now.
  • Ask them to name the different parts of the day (morning, afternoon, evening, night).
  • Ask them what they usually do during each part of the day.

Direct Instruction

  • Show the pictures or pictures cutouts of the different times of the day to the students and ask them to identify which picture represents which time of the day.
  • Ask students what they usually do during each part of the day and discuss their answers as a class.
  • Explain that there are 24 hours in a day and that each hour has 60 minutes.
  • Use a clock and point to each part of the clock face to show students how many minutes there are in each hour.

Guided Practice

  • Have students work in pairs or small groups and give each group a copy of the time of day worksheet.
  • Have students work together to fill in the correct information for each time of day (time, activity, reason).
  • Use the clock to help students remember the correct number of minutes for each hour.
  • Go over the answers as a class and check for accuracy.

Independent Practice

  • Have students choose one activity from each time of day and draw a picture of themselves doing that activity.
  • Encourage students to be creative and use their own ideas, rather than just copying the examples provided on the worksheet.
  • Have students glue their pictures onto a sheet of paper and then present their drawings to the class.

Closure

  • Ask students to share one thing they learned about the time and daily routines during the lesson.
  • Remind students that there are different routines for different times of day, and that these routines can vary from person to person.

Assessment

  • Observe students during independent practice to see if they are able to create a time and daily routine for a person or character.
  • Evaluate their completed book or story to see if they were able to include multiple routines and their corresponding times of day.
