Topic: jobs

Objectives & Outcomes

• Students will be able to identify and use different job titles and responsibilities in their sentences.

Materials

• Flashcards with job titles (e.g. doctor, firefighter, teacher, nurse)
• Sentence strips with job responsibilities (e.g. doctors provide medical care, firefighters rescue people from danger, teachers teach students, nurses provide medical care)

Warm-up

• Ask students to think of a job that they know and tell the class about it.
• Write the job title on the board.
• Ask the students if they know what the person doing this job does.

Direct Instruction

• Explain that a job is something that someone does to earn money or food.
• Ask the students to think of other jobs that they know and write them on the board.
• Ask the students what the person doing that job does.
• Encourage the students to use the vocabulary words (job, earn, food) in sentences.

Guided Practice -Listen to the student-created sentences using the vocabulary words and write them on the board.

• Have the students work in pairs to match the sentences with the correct job titles.
• Go through the matching pairs together and have the students explain their choices.
• Have the students write the sentences on their own paper and write the correct job titles next to each sentence.

Independent Practice

• Have the students choose a noun or a noun phrase from the list and create a sentence using the -vowel-e
• Have the students present their sentences to the class and have the class try to guess the correct job title.

Closure

• Review the vocabulary and grammar points covered in the lesson and have the students repeat the sentences they created.
• Ask the students to share something they learned about the different jobs and how they can be done using -vowel-e.

Assessment

• Observe the students during the independent practice activity and provide feedback on their use of -vowel-e in their sentences.
• Collect the students' work and review it to assess their understanding of the grammar points covered in the lesson.
