Topic: Favorite Zoo Animal

Objectives & Outcomes

• Students will be able to talk about their favorite zoo animal and explain why they chose it.

Materials

• Use the video for introduction of animal names - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tHqNsMIJ69s
• Pictures of various zoo animals - Lion, Gorilla, Penguin, Panda, Elephant, Monkey, Giraffe,
• A paper and colors to draw the favorite animal picture

Warm-up

• Ask the students if they have ever been to a zoo before.
• Ask them to share their favorite zoo animal and explain why they chose it.

Direct Instruction

• Introduce the word "zoo" and explain what it is.
• Show the students pictures of different zoo animals and ask them to name each one.
• Ask them to share their favorite zoo animal and explain why they chose it.

Guided Practice

• Have them work in pairs to draw or paint a picture of their favorite zoo animal.

Independent Practice

• Make groups and ask the students to show their favorite animal picture to each other and then tell each other why is it their favorite.

Class Feedback

• Ask each student in the group about his/her partner's favorite animal and why they thought it was their favorite.

Closure

• Review the main points of the lesson, including the animals' habitats, diets, and some fun facts.
• Ask the students to share their favorite parts of the lesson and why they liked learning about zoo animals.

Assessment

• Observe the students during the structured and independent practice activities to see if they are able to use the correct words and phrases to describe the animals' -h-a-b-i-t-a-t-s and d-i-e-t-s.
• Collect the students' posters and assess their understanding of the lesson by looking for accurate information and good use of vocabulary.
