Topic: Decoding multisyllabic words

Objectives & Outcomes

  • Students will be able to decode multisyllabic words with closed syllables, open syllables, VCe syllables, vowel teams, including digraphs and diphthongs, r-controlled syllables, and final stable syllables.
  • Students will be able to decode multisyllabic words with confidence and accuracy.

  • Word cards with multisyllabic words with final stable syllables

Warm-Up

  • Write a few multisyllabic words on the board with different types of syllables (closed, open, VCe, vowel teams, digraphs, diphthongs, r-controlled).
  • Ask students to identify the types of syllables in each word.
  • Ask students to make up multisyllabic words with different types of syllables.

Direct Instruction

  • Review the types of syllables (closed, open, VCe, vowel teams, digraphs, diphthong, r-controlled) and their corresponding sounds.
  • Use a word list to model decoding multisyllabic words with different types of syllables.
  • Have students practice decoding multisyllabic words with different types of syllables.

Guided Practice
