Free Animals And Habitats Lesson Plan for 3rd Grade Students

Topic: Animals and habitats

Objectives & Outcomes

• Students will be able to identify the different types of animals and their habitats.

Materials

• Pictures of different types of animals
• Pictures or models of different types of habitats (e.g. forest, desert, ocean, etc.)

Warm-up

• Ask students if they have ever seen any animals in person.
• Ask them to name some of the animals they have seen and where they saw them.

Direct Instruction

• Show the pictures of animals and their habitats to the students.
• Ask them to identify the animals and their habitats.
• Encourage them to use the word cards to describe the animals and their habitats.

Guided Practice

• Divide the students into small groups.
• Give each group a set of word cards.
• Ask them to sort the word cards into piles according to the animals and their habitats.
• Have them use the word cards to describe the animals and their habitats to each other.

Independent Practice

• Give each student a sheet of paper and a pen.
• Ask them to draw an animal and its habitat.
• Have them write a sentence using the verb "to live" to describe the animal and its habitat.

Closure

• Ask students to share their drawings and sentences with the class.
• Discuss the different animals and their habitats that were drawn.

Assessment

• Observe students during the sorting activity and during independent practice to assess their understanding of the words for animals and where they live.
• Collect and review their drawings and sentences as a form of assessment.
