Objectives & Outcomes

• Students will understand the role of a General and how a General can lead a kingdom to victory.
• Students will be able to describe the characteristics of a good General.

Materials

• Pictures of Gengis Khan, Lachit Borphukan, and other famous Generals
• Pencils and paper for taking notes

Warm-up

• Ask the students to raise their hand if they know what a General is.
• Ask the students to name some famous Generals they know.
• Ask the students to share what they know about Generals.

Presentation

• Show the pictures of Gengis Khan, Lachit Borphukan, and other famous Generals to the students and ask them to share what they know about these people.
• Ask the students if they know what a General does.
• Ask the students to raise their hand if they know what a kingdom is.
• Ask the students to share what they know about kingdoms.
• Ask the students if they know what the role of a General is in a kingdom.
• Write the phrase "A General is the leader of an army in a kingdom" on the board and ask the students to read it out loud.
• Ask the students if they know what an army is.
• Write the definition of an army on the board: A group of warriors who protect a kingdom.
• Ask the students if they know what a kingdom is.
• Write the definition of a kingdom on the board: A country ruled by a king or a queen.
• Ask the students if they know what the role of a General is in a kingdom.
• Ask the students to raise their hand if they know what a General does.
• Tell the students the story of Lachit Borphukan, how he became the General of Ahom Kingdom, and how he led the Ahom army to victory against the Mughal Empire in the Battle of Saraighat.
