Natural Resources

Topic: Natural Resources

Objectives & Outcomes

  • Students will be able to identify and describe different types of natural resources, and explain how they are used.

Materials

  • Pictures or illustrations of different types of natural resources (e.g. plants, animals, minerals, water, air)
  • Chart paper or whiteboard and markers

Warm-up

  • Ask students if they know what natural resources are.
  • Ask for examples of natural resources.
  • Discuss how natural resources are important for our survival and how they can be used to provide us with things we need and enjoy, such as food, clothing, and shelter.

Direct Instruction

  • Show students pictures or videos of natural resources, such as forests, oceans, and mines.
  • Explain that natural resources are found in different parts of the world and can be used in different ways. For example, forests can be used for wood, oceans for fishing, and mines for minerals such as gold and iron.
  • Ask students to think about how natural resources can be used to provide us with things we need and enjoy.

Guided Practice

  • Have students work in pairs to complete a worksheet with questions about natural resources, such as:
  • What are some examples of natural resources?
  • How are natural resources used?
  • What are the benefits of using natural resources?

Independent Practice

  • Have students work on a project-based activity where they research a specific natural resource and create a poster or presentation to share with the class. They can include information about where the resource is found, how it is used, and any benefits it provides.

Closure

  • Review the main points of the lesson and ask students to share something they learned about natural resources.
  • Remind students that natural resources are important for our survival and we need to take care of them so they will be there for future generations.

Assessment

  • Observe students during independent practice and provide feedback on their projects.
  • Collect and review the Venn diagrams created by students as a group, looking for understanding of the three types of natural resources and their importance.
