Objectives & Outcomes

  • Students will be able to explain why indigenous tribes celebrate with powwows.

Materials

  • Pictures of indigenous tribes holding a powwow
  • Article about the history and purpose of a powwow
  • Colored pencils or markers

Warm-up

  • Ask students if they have ever heard of a powwow before. Ask them to share what they know about it.
  • Show the students a picture of an indigenous tribe holding a powwow. Ask them what they notice about the picture.

Direct Instruction

  • Explain that a powwow is a celebration that indigenous tribes hold to celebrate their culture and traditions.
