Topic: Write about animals in the forest

Objectives & Outcomes

• Students will write a descriptive paragraph about animals in the forest.

Materials

• Pencils and paper
• Pictures of animals in the forest (optional)

Warm-up

• Ask students if they have ever been to the forest before.
• Ask them to name some animals that they might see in the forest.
• Write their answers on the board.

Direct Instruction

• Tell students that today they will be writing about animals in the forest.
• Ask them to think about what animals live in the forest and what they look like.
• Have them brainstorm ideas on paper or the whiteboard about the different animals that live in the forest.

Guided Practice

• Provide students with examples of animals that live in the forest (e.g. monkeys, birds, rabbits).
• Have them work in pairs or small groups to write a paragraph about one of the animals they brainstormed.
• Have them share their paragraph with the class and discuss any differences or similarities in their writing.

Independent Practice

• Have students choose one animal that they want to write about and brainstorm ideas for what they could write about it.
• Have them write a paragraph about their chosen animal.
• Have them decorate the corners of their paragraph with animals that they chose from the forest activity.

Closure

• Have students share their paragraph with the class.
• Ask them to explain their choice of animal and why they chose to write about it.

Assessment

• Observe students during the guided and independent practice to assess their understanding of the concept of writing paragraphs.
• Collect and review their paragraphs for improvements in grammar, vocabulary, and overall message.
