Warm-Up

  • Ask the students if they have ever been on a boat or ship before. What did they do on the boat?
  • Ask the students if they know what a sailor does and what the job is like.
  • Show the students the pictures of ships, sailors, and lighthouses and have them raise their hands if they have seen these things before.

Direct Instruction

  • Tell the students that today they will be learning about ships, sailors, and lighthouses.
  • Explain that ships are large vessels that travel across the ocean and carry cargo and passengers.
  • Tell the students that sailors are the people who work on the ships and help to sail the ships.
  • Show the students pictures of ships and sailors and ask them to describe what they see.
  • Explain that lighthouses are buildings that are located on the coast and are used to warn ships about danger and to guide them to safe harbor.
