Pucca Houses Lesson Plan for 2nd Grade Students

Topic: Pucca houses

Objectives & Outcomes

• Students will be able to describe the characteristics of pucca houses.
• Students will be able to list the materials used for pucca house construction.
• Students will be able to draw a simple plan of a pucca house.

Materials

• Construction paper
• Pencils
• Construction paper for practice drawing
• Markers
• Pictures of pucca houses (optional)

Warm-up

• Ask the students to share what they know about pucca houses.
• Write their responses on the board.
• Ask the students to share any pictures or drawings of pucca houses they may have.

Direct Instruction

• Explain that pucca houses are made of concrete and have roofs made of tiles or metal sheets.
• Explain that pucca houses are found in the cities and towns, and not in the rural areas.
• Ask the students to think about why pucca houses are only found in the cities and towns, and not in the rural areas.
• Write their responses on the board.
• Explain that the materials used to make pucca houses depend on the location and economic status of the people living in that house.
• Differential teaching
• For lower level learners, provide more detailed explanations and use more visual aids.
• For higher level learners, ask them to provide more detailed explanations and use more their own words.

Guided Practice:

• Have the students work in pairs or small groups.
• Give each group a set of materials to use to make a scale model of a pucca house.
• Have them follow the steps listed in the handout to make their model.
• Assist and guide as needed.

Independent Practice:

• Have the students work on a project-based activity where they have to design and build their own pucca house using the materials and techniques learned in class.
• Encourage them to be creative and think about the factors affecting pucca house design and build.
• Provide support and guidance as needed.

Closure:

• Review the objectives and highlight the key takeaways from the lesson.
• Ask the students to give a short presentation on their pucca house designs and explain the factors they considered while making their choices.
