Objectives & Outcomes

  • Students will understand the concept of a giant carrot and how it can be used in a story.

Materials

  • Picture of a giant carrot
  • Story of a giant carrot
  • Blank paper and pencils/pens for each student

Warm-up

  • Ask students if they have ever heard of a giant carrot.
  • Ask them to share their thoughts and ideas about a giant carrot.
  • Write down their ideas on the board.
  • Ask questions like: Where would a giant carrot live? How big would it be? What would it do?

Direct Instruction

  • Introduce the story "The Giant Carrot" by reading it aloud to the class.
  • Ask students to listen for key details and make predictions about what might happen in the story.
  • As you read, pause to discuss and elaborate on the students' predictions.
  • Stop reading when you reach the end of the story.
