2nd Grade Kickball Lesson Plan

Topic: Kickball

Objectives & Outcomes

• Students will be able to explain the rules and fundamentals of kickball.

Materials

• Kickball equipment (balls, bases, kickstand)
• Diagrams or illustrations of the rules of kickball

Warm-up

• Review the concept of playing a game with rules and how it helps everyone have fun and enjoy themselves.
• Ask students if they have ever played a game with rules before and what games they have played.

Direct Instruction

• Introduce the game of kickball and explain the basic rules, such as how to kick the ball and how to run the bases.
• Demonstrate proper kicking technique, including how to stand with both feet on the ground, how to extend the leg straight out, and how to make contact with the ball on the bottom of the foot.
• Explain the bases and how to run them, including how to touch each base in order and how to properly return to home base after reaching the final base.

Guided Practice

• Divide the students into teams and have them practice kicking the ball and running the bases.
• Walk around to provide guidance and assistance as needed, ensuring that the students are using proper kicking technique and running the bases correctly.
• Play a few rounds of kickball to give the students a chance to put their skills into practice in a game setting.

Independent Practice

• Assign each student a role (batter, runner, catcher) and have them work on practicing those skills independently or in small groups.
• Encourage them to use the techniques and strategies learned during the lesson as they practice.

Closure

• Review the rules and objectives of kickball and have students share what they learned and how they can apply it to the game.
• End the lesson with a quick game of kickball to give the students a chance to apply what they learned and have fun.

Assessment

• Observe the students during the kickball game and assess their understanding of the rules and the fundamentals of the game.
