Topic: Introduction to different musical styles (classical, jazz, folk, etc.)

Objectives & Outcomes:

  • Students will be able to define the different musical styles of classical, jazz, and folk music and identify examples of each style.

Materials

  • Pictures or videos of classical, jazz, and folk music (optional)
  • Handouts with definitions and examples of each musical style

Warm-up

  • Ask students if they have ever heard any music that was unfamiliar to them.
  • Ask them to describe the music to you and what they thought of it.
  • Encourage them to use words like "happy," "sad," "exciting," or "calm" to describe their feelings about the music.

Direct Instruction

  • Show students pictures or videos of different musical styles, such as classical, jazz, folk, and rock.
