Topic: Counting to 100 on a number line

Objectives & Outcomes

• Students will be able to count to 100 on a number line.

Materials

• Number line
• Numbers 1-100 written on cards or counters
• Marker or pen

Warm-up

• Review the concept of a number line and how to read it. Ask students to show you how to count to 10 on a number line.
• Then, have students count to 20 on a number line, helping them as needed.

Direct Instruction

• Introduce the 100-count rhyme to the students.
• Have students say the rhyme as a group, emphasizing the numbers as they reach them on the number line.
• Explain that the purpose of the rhyme is to help us remember how to count to 100 on a number line.
• Have students practice counting to 100 on a number line, using the rhyme to help them remember the numbers.

Guided Practice

• Have students work in pairs to practice counting to 100 on a number line, using the rhyme to help them remember the numbers.
• Monitor the students as they work, providing assistance as needed.

Independent Practice

• Have students use the blank number lines provided to create their own rhymes for counting to 100. Encourage them to be creative and use their own words.
• Students can then present their rhymes to the class and have others try to guess the numbers being counted to.

Closure

• Review the concepts learned during the lesson, including counting to 100 on a number line and using rhymes to make counting
• to-100 easier.
• Ask students to share any new rhymes they created for counting to 100.

Assessment
