Topic: introducing myself in Arabic language

Objectives & Outcomes

• By the end of this unit, students will be able to introduce themselves in Arabic language by saying their name, where they are from, and what they like to do.

Materials

• Name cards with students' names written on them
• Postcards with images of different places
• Cardstock and markers to make name tags

Warm-up

• Review the Arabic alphabet with the students. Have them practice writing the letters and saying their names out loud.

Direct Instruction

• Introduce yourself to the students and say your name in Arabic. Ask the students to repeat your name after you.
• Ask the students if they know where Lebanon is. If they do, ask them to point to the country on a map.
• If they do not know where Lebanon is, explain that it is a country in the Middle East near Syria and Israel. Ask the students to repeat the names of these countries after you.

Guided Practice

• Write the following countries on the board: Syria, Israel, and Lebanon.
• Ask the students to point to each country on the map and say its name in Arabic.
• Ask the students to work with a partner to write the names of the countries on a piece of paper and say their names in Arabic.

Independent Practice

• Ask the students to draw a picture of themselves.
• Have them write their name under their picture and say their name in Arabic.

Closure

• Review the words used to introduce ourselves in Arabic.
• Ask the students to share something about themselves in Arabic.
• Encourage the students to practice speaking Arabic outside of class.

Assessment

• Observe the students during the guided and independent practice activities and provide feedback on their use of Arabic words and sentences to introduce themselves.
• Evaluate the students' written work to assess their understanding of the words and structure used to introduce themselves in Arabic.
