Topic: Save our planet

Objectives & Outcomes

  • Students will understand the importance of protecting the environment and will be able to identify ways in which they can help to do so.

Materials

  • Pictures of various environmental issues (e.g. pollution, deforestation, climate change)
  • Pencils and paper for each student

Warm-up

  • Ask students if they know what the environment is.
  • Ask them to share any experiences they have had that involved protecting the environment.
  • Explain that today they will be learning about the importance of protecting the environment and how they can do so.

Direct Instruction

  • Show pictures or videos of different aspects of the environment, such as the ocean, forests, and mountains.
  • Ask students to describe what they see in each picture or video.
  • Explain that all of these different parts of the environment are important and we need to take care of them.
  • Ask students if they know why we need to take care of the environment.
  • Provide examples of how humans can harm the environment, such as by cutting down trees or polluting the air.
  • Explain how we can protect the environment by not littering, recycling, and being mindful of our impact on the environment.

Guided Practice

  • Have students work in small groups to brainstorm ways they can be more mindful of the environment.
  • Have each group share their ideas with the class and discuss how they can implement these actions in their daily lives.
  • Encourage students to ask questions and provide additional explanations as needed.

Independent Practice

  • Have students create a poster or presentation to share with the class on one action they have decided to take to be more mindful of the environment.
  • Encourage students to be creative and include visual elements in their presentation.

Closure

  • Review the main points of the lesson, emphasizing the importance of caring for the environment and taking action to do so.
  • Ask students to share one thing they plan to do to protect the environment, and encourage others to do the same.

Assessment

  • Observe students during the guided and independent practice activities to assess their understanding of the material.
  • Collect and review the posters or presentations created during the independent practice activity to assess students' ability to apply their knowledge of saving the environment in a creative way.
