Topic: Acquaintance

Objectives & Outcomes

  • Students will be able to describe what an acquaintance is and explain how they can make new acquaintances.

Materials

  • Flash cards with different images of people (e.g. a family, a stranger, a classmate, a friend)
  • Pencils and paper for each student

Warm-up

  • Ask students if they have any friends at school.
  • Ask them to name their friends and describe what they like about them.
  • Discuss the concept of acquaintances and explain that they are people we know, but are not as close to as friends.

Direct Instruction

  • Introduce the concept of acquaintances by explaining that they are people we know, but are not as close to as friends.

  • Ask the students to share one thing they learned about greeting and saying goodbye to acquaintances.
  • Remind the students that they can always ask a teacher or parent for help if they have a problem with their acquaintances.

  • Observe the students during independent practice and give feedback on the completion of their booklets.
  • Have the students discuss their booklets with a teacher or parent and give feedback on their understanding of the concept of acquaintance closure and their ability to apply it in real-life situations.
