Topic: POWER AND INTERFACE CABLES

Objectives & Outcomes

• Students will be able to identify the different types of cables and their functions.

Materials

• Various types of cables (power cable, interface cable, audio cable, etc.)
• Chart paper and markers

Warm-up

• Ask students if they have ever used a device that needs power. Ask them to name some examples. Write their responses on the chart paper.
• Next, ask the students if they have ever used a device that has a cable or wire attached to it. Ask them to name some examples. Write their responses on the chart paper.

Direct Instruction

• Introduce the concept of power cables and interface cables. Explain that power cables are used to provide electricity to devices, and interface cables are used to connect devices to each other (e.g. a USB cable can be used to connect a device to a computer or to a power source).
• Show the students the different types of power and interface cables. Ask them to identify which type of cable is which.

Guided Practice

• Have the students work in pairs to match the correct type of cable to the correct device. You can provide a list of devices that they can reference if needed.

Independent Practice

• Have the students create a project where they choose a device in the classroom and design a cable to go with it. They can use materials such as cardboard, paper, and glue to make their cables and should include a label with the correct type of cable and the name of the device it goes with.

Closure

• Have the students share their projects with the class and discuss the different types of cables and their purposes.
• Review the different types of cables and their uses.

• Evaluate the students' understanding of the different types of cables and their uses by observing their participation in the group activity and their ability to identify and describe the cables.
