Objectives & Outcomes

• Students will be able to listen carefully and pay attention to what the teacher is saying.
• Students will be able to listen for specific information in a story and answer questions about it.

Materials

• Short stories with questions at the end (one per class period)
• Chart paper and markers
• Listening guides (optional)

Warm-up

• Review the importance of listening carefully and paying attention to the teacher.
• Discuss some common distractions in the classroom (such as toys or other students) and how to avoid them.
• Have the students partner up and take turns reading a short story out loud to each other. Allow them to use their own interpretation and creativity when telling the story.

Direct Instruction

• Introduce the concept of listening carefully and paying attention to the teacher.
• Discuss some common distractions in the classroom (such as toys or other students) and how to avoid them.
• Role-play a situation in which the students are expected to listen to the teacher and follow instructions. Use real-life examples and provide feedback.

Guided Practice:

• Divide the students into small groups and give each group a set of instructions to follow (e.g. "clean up your work area").
• Have each group demonstrate their listening skills by following the instructions.
• Provide feedback and encouragement.

Independent Practice:

• Provide each student with a set of instructions and have them follow it independently.
• Encourage them to ask for clarification or point out any ambiguity.

Closure:

• Have the students share their completed tasks with the class and explain how they followed the instructions.
• Review the key points of the lesson, including what it means to listen carefully and the importance of asking for clarification when needed.

Assessment:
