Topic: Minibeasts Diet

Objectives & Outcomes

• Students will be able to identify the different types of minibeasts and list the types of food they eat.

Materials

• Pictures of various minibeasts (e.g. ants, grasshoppers, butterflies, spiders)
• Chart paper and markers#-

Warm-up

• Ask students if they have ever seen a minibeast before.
• Ask them to share what kind of minibeast they saw and what it was eating.
• Write their responses on the chart paper.

Direct Instruction

• Explain that minibeasts are tiny animals that live in the soil and on plants.
• Tell students that there are many different kinds of minibeasts, and each kind eats different foods.
• Show the pictures of different minibeasts and their food. Ask students to identify the minibeast and what it is eating.
• Explain that minibeasts need food to survive.

Guided Practice

• Show the pictures of the different minibeasts again and have students work in pairs to identify the minibeast and what it is eating.
• Have each pair share their answers with the class.

Independent Practice

• Give each student a piece of paper and a pencil. Ask them to draw a picture of themselves alongside one or more minibeasts, and then label each minibeast and write what it is eating.
• As students work, walk around the classroom and assist as needed.

Closure

• Have each student share their drawing with the class and explain which minibeast they have drawn and what it is eating.
• Review the different types of minibeasts and the foods that they eat.

Assessment

• Observe students during the independent practice activity and assess their understanding of the different types of minibeasts and the foods they eat.
• Collect the students' drawings and evaluate their ability to accurately draw and label a minibeast and its food.
