Topic: Give the Name and Sound of Letter M

Objectives & Outcomes

• Students will be able to identify the letter m and produce its corresponding sound.

Materials

• Flashcards with the alphabet written on them
• Pictures of objects that start with the letter m (such as a mouse, moon, or muffin)

Warm-up

• Have students sit in a circle. Hold up a flashcard with the alphabet written on it and say the letters one by one, asking the students to raise their hands if they hear a certain letter. For example, "A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, J, K, L, M, N, O, P, Q, R, S, T, U, V, W, X, Y, Z. Who can raise their hand and tell me what letter I just said?"

Direct Instruction

• Introduce the letter m to the students and show them the flashcard with the letter written on it.
• Ask the students to repeat the sound of the letter after you.
• Have the students repeat the sound of the letter m multiple times, encouraging them to say it correctly.

Guided Practice

• Using the letter cards, have the students work in pairs to identify the letter m and say its sound.
• Have the students take turns showing a letter card to their partner and saying the sound of the letter.
• Encourage the students to help each other if they are struggling to say the sound of the letter m.

Independent Practice

• Have the students work in small groups to make a word puzzle using the alphabet cards.
• Each group should come up with a word that begins with the letter m and has at least 3 letters.
• Have the students present their word puzzles to the class and say the word out loud.

Closure

• Review the letters and sounds of the letter m.
• Ask the students to repeat the sound of the letter m and say some words that begin with m.
