Objectives & Outcomes

  • Children will be able to create their own game for others to play outdoors.

Materials

  • Natural materials such as sticks, leaves, fruits, etc.
  • Markers or pencils for drawing game boards
  • Paper for writing the rules of the game

Warm-up

  • Ask the children if they have ever played any games outdoors.
  • Ask them to share their favorite outdoor game and how to play it.
  • Write down the names of the games on the board and draw a picture of the game board for each one.

Direct Instruction

  • Introduce the name of the game that the children are going to play.
  • Explain the rules of the game and demonstrate how to play it.
  • Ask the children to repeat the rules and practice a few rounds of the game.

Guided Practice

  • Divide the children into pairs or small groups.
  • Provide each group with the materials needed to play the game.
  • Demonstrate how to play the game with the materials.
  • Help the children as they work on playing the game themselves.
  • Encourage the children to think creatively when playing the game.

Independent Practice

  • Have the children work on creating their own games using the materials provided.
  • Encourage the children to be creative and think outside the box when creating their games.
  • Provide support and guidance as needed.

Closure

  • Have the children share their games with the class.
  • Discuss the different ideas for games that were created and how the children were able to be creative and think outside the box.
  • Thank the children for their participation and effort.

Assessment: Observe the children during the independent practice activity and take note of the games they are creating and their participation and level of understanding.

  • Collect and review the games the children have created during the independent practice activity and provide feedback to the children on their understanding of the game-creation process and the quality of the games they have created.
  • Evaluate the class participation in the group practice activity and provide feedback on their understanding and participation in the game-creation process.
