Objectives & Outcomes

• Students will be able to play the De C scale in their flutes accurately and with proper technique.

Materials

• Flutes
• De C scale sheet music
• Metronome

Warm-up

• Review C scale, playing it up and down on their own instruments.
• Play the scale with the metronome at a moderate tempo, aiming for a smooth and even tone.

Direct Instruction

• Introduce the new key of D on the flute by playing a D scale on the metronome.
• Have the students repeat the D scale after you, this time on their own instruments.
• Play the D scale with the metronome again, this time at a faster tempo, aiming for a smooth and even tone.
• Have the students repeat the D scale after you again, this time at the faster tempo.

Guided Practice

• Play the D scale with the metronome again, this time at an even faster tempo.
• Have the students repeat the D scale after you again, this time at the faster tempo.

Independent Practice

• Have the students perform the D scale on their flutes.
• Encourage the students to play the scale loudly and accurately.

Closure

• Ask the students to share one thing they learned about scales today.
• Review the names of the notes in the D scale and ask the students to sing them.

Assessment

• Observe the students during the guided practice to assess their understanding of the D scale.
• Have the students play the D scale on their own and observe their technique and ability to play in tune.
