Objectives & Outcomes

• Students will be able to recognize different vocal ranges (high, low, soft, loud).
• Students will be able to experiment with singing in different voices.

Materials

• Music to play
• Faces sheets or other materials for students to practice making different expressions

Warm-Up

• Review the different vocal ranges and ask students to call out which one they think they can reach the highest/lowest/loudest/softest.
• Have students stretch their voices and try singing a song in a low voice, then a high voice.
• Ask students to act out different emotions, such as happy, sad, scared, surprised, and have them act out what they think the expression would look like.

Direct Instruction

• Introduce the concept of different vocal ranges and the names of the different voices (high, low, soft, loud).
• Demonstrate the different voices and have students repeat after you.
• Play a song and have students try singing it in different voices.

Guided Practice

• Have students work in pairs and take turns singing different parts of the song in different voices.
• Encourage students to experiment and have fun with the different voices.

Independent Practice

• Have students choose a song they are familiar with and create a "vocal range" version of the song, where they sing all the parts in different voices.
• Encourage students to be creative and have fun with the project.

Closure

• Have students share their "vocal range" versions of the songs with the class.
• Have students reflect on their own experiences with singing in different voices and discuss the different vocal ranges they used.

Assessment

• Observe students during the independent practice and make note of which songs they chose to sing and which vocal ranges they used.
• Administer a short quiz at the end of the lesson to assess students' understanding of the different vocal ranges and their ability to recognize and name them.
