Materials

  • Textbook or other reading materials on time
  • Clock or watch
  • Calendar

Warm-up

  • Ask the students if they know what time it is now.
  • Ask the students if they know how to find out what time it is.
  • Introduce the concept of today, yesterday, and tomorrow.Ask the students if they know what these terms mean.

Direct Instruction

  • Show the students a clock and explain how it is used to measure time.
  • Show the students a calendar and explain how it is used to mark off time.
  • Explain that there are different names for the different times of the day (morning, afternoon, evening).

Guided Practice

  • Show the students a picture of a clock or calendar and ask them to identify it.
  • Ask the students to point to the different hours on the clock or the different days on the calendar.
  • Encourage the students to use their own words to describe the purpose of the clock and the calendar.

Independent Practice

  • Divide the class into groups and give each group a different task to complete.
  • For example, one group may need to measure the time it takes to complete a task, another group may need to schedule a meeting, and another group may need to plan a vacation.
  • Ask the students to use the clock and the calendar to complete their task.

Closure

  • Review the different ways of measuring time and the words we use to describe time.
  • Ask the students to share any interesting or funny stories about measuring time.

  • Observe the students during the independent practice activity and give feedback on their ability to select appropriate words to describe time
