Topic: Numbers 11 to 20

Objectives & Outcomes

• Students will be able to count and identify numbers up to 20.

Materials

• Pictures of objects that represent each number (e.g. one apple, two oranges, three bananas, etc.)
• Chart paper and markers

Warm-up

• Ask students to stand up and stretch their bodies. Then, have them count out loud as they tap their own bodies (e.g. "one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten").
• Next, have students count in pairs, with one student counting out loud while the other one tries to guess the number.

Direct Instruction

• Show students the number cards from 1 to 20.
• Ask students to name each number and say what comes after it (e.g. "After 1, there is 2. After 2, there is 3. After 3, there is 4. After 4, there is 5. After 5, there is 6. After 6, there is 7. After 7, there is 8. After 8, there is 9. After 9, there is 10. After 10, there is 11.").
• Have students repeat the numbers and their corresponding numbers after them several times.

Guided Practice

• Next, show students the number line and have them place the number cards in order from 1 to 20.
• Ask students to point to each number as you say it and have them say what comes after it.
• Finally, have students work with a partner to place the number cards in order from 1 to 20.

Independent Practice

• Give students the activity worksheet and have them work on it independently.
• Encourage students to count to 20 and say the numbers out loud as they work.

Closure

• Ask students to share their completed worksheets with the class.
• Review the numbers 11 to 20 and their count words again.

Assessment

• Observe students during the independent practice activity and look for them to be able to count from 11 to 20 and say the corresponding count words correctly.
• Collect and review the completed worksheets to assess students' ability to count from 11 to 20 and write the corresponding number words.
