Topic: how to pronounce and write the number 6

Objectives & Outcomes:

• Students will be able to pronounce the number 6 correctly and write it using basic handwriting skills.

Materials

• Pencils
• Paper
• Chart with the numbers 1-6 written on it

Warm-up:

• Ask the students to raise their hand if they can already pronounce the number 6.
• Ask the students to call out the number 6, while pointing to it on the chart.

Direct Instruction:

• Explain that the number 6 is a special number because it has two straight lines, and two dots above the lines.
• Tell the students the name of the number 6 in English, "six."
• Have the students repeat the name of the number 6 after you.
• Show the students how to write the number 6 using the numeral cards.
• Have the students practice writing the number 6 several times on their own.

Guided Practice:

• Show the students a picture of a cat and ask them what number the cat is.
• Have the students use their numeral cards to find the number and write it on their paper.
• Have the students practice writing the number 6 next to the pictures of other things, such as a dog, car, and apple.

Independent Practice:

• Give each student a piece of paper with a few numbers on it, such as 2, 4, and 6.
• Have the students use their numeral cards to find the numbers and draw a line under each one.
